10 Rambling Thoughts about a Higher Consciousness

Yesterday, I read a great article that has got me thinking:

There’s a case to be made that for humanity to survive, we’ll need to shed our egos and become more conscious. And if you believe that evolution is a universal law of nature that puts survival of the species topmost, one could understand why evolution is pushing humanity toward higher consciousness. It could be the only way we homo sapiens survive as a species.

What a conscious world would look like?

Imagine walking into the grocery store. Observation number one is that people aren’t rushing around in a frenzy trying to get to that next thing on their to-do list. They’re slow. And peaceful. The check out person takes their time running items through the scanner. People in line don’t mind waiting. They just chill out. Look around. Talk with each other. No rush.

Peace on the roads

On the roads, people don’t lean on their horns if a terrible driver bumblingly drifts into their lane. Why? Because they don’t have an ego that craves to express itself in some dramatic flash of anger.

If I had to sum up in one phrase how humanity would handle the annoyances we all endure in our daily lives, it would be this: Like water off a duck’s back.

No more countries?

What about governance? Would there be a need for countries anymore? People wouldn’t identify with their “Chinese-ness” or “Russian-ness” or “Brazilian-ness.” They’d identify with their consciousness. So what’s the need?

Today, I read another great article that has pushed my thoughts to another level:

The speed of light is a hardware artifact showing we live in a simulated universe. What are the implications of this monumental find? It is the ultimate conspiracy theory. The mother of all conspiracy theories, the one that says that everything, with the exception of nothing, is fake and a conspiracy designed to fool our senses.

Pretty much since the dawn of philosophy we have been asking the question: Why do we need consciousness? What purpose does it serve? Well, the purpose is easy to extrapolate once we concede the simulation hypothesis. Consciousness is an integrated (combining five senses) subjective interface between the self and the rest of the universe. The only reasonable explanation for its existence is that it is there to be an “experience.”

There is nothing in philosophy or science, no postulates, theories or laws, that would predict the emergence of this experience we call consciousness. Natural laws do not call for its existence, and it certainly does not seem to offer us any evolutionary advantages. There can only be two explanations for its existence. First is that there are evolutionary forces at work that we don’t know of or haven’t theorized yet that select for the emergence of the experience called consciousness. The second is that the experience is a function we serve, a product that we create, an experience we generate as human beings. Who do we create this product for? How do they receive the output of the qualia generating algorithms that we are? We don’t know. But one thing’s for sure, we do create it. We know it exists. That’s the only thing we can be certain about. And that we don’t have a dominant theory to explain why we need it.

So here we are generating this product called consciousness that we apparently don’t have a use for, that is an experience and hence must serve as an experience. The only logical next step is to surmise that this product serves someone else.

…and now for the rambling thoughts part of this article.

1. If we’re all living in a simulation, does anything matter?

2. If the simulation theory is factual, how should it change our behavior or thoughts?

3. Should we simply go through life with this attitude? “I don’t give a shit, nothing matters anyway, I only live once…just let me play the game, find enjoyment when possible, and move on.”

4. When you know nothing matters, the universe is yours!

5. Shouldn’t we be excited to die and see what’s on the other side?!

6. The universe will work in your favor if you believe that it will.

7. When we have a lack of confidence in ourselves, aren’t we also showing a lack of confidence in the universe…and its plan for us?

8. Should negative energy be met with negative energy…or with peace & love?

9. When faced with challenges, we can either let ourselves be destroyed or be transformed into something better.

10. Be your best self…better each day!
